How does a rune reading work?
Hold a question in mind and draw one rune for a single theme, or three for what has shaped your situation, where you stand, and what could help. Each rune’s meaning grows from its old name, such as Fehu (cattle, wealth) or Raidho (a journey).
What is the Elder Futhark?
The Elder Futhark is the oldest runic alphabet, used from roughly the 2nd to the 8th century. Its 24 runes fall into three groups of eight, called ættir. See how to read runes for the history and how to cast them.
Can runes predict the future?
No. Runes were first an alphabet, and nothing shows that they can predict events. Reading them is a modern, reflective practice: notice what a rune’s theme brings to mind, and let your choices be your own.
Why is there no blank rune or reversed rune?
The blank rune was added to rune sets in the 1980s and is not part of the Elder Futhark, and several runes look the same upside down. We read each rune in its own meaning, gentler or harder depending on your question.
