How a playing card reading works

Each suit covers an area of life: hearts for feelings and relationships, diamonds for practical matters and money, clubs for work and action, and spades for challenges and hard truths. The number or court card adds a stage or a role. Read the three cards in their positions, notice which suits appear most, and finish with the last card’s question and small step.

What is cartomancy?

Cartomancy is card reading with an ordinary deck of playing cards. It became popular in 18th-century France and spread across Europe and beyond, and it is practised in many cultures today.

Can a playing card reading predict the future?

No. Cartomancy was traditionally used for fortune-telling, but nothing shows that cards can predict events. Here the traditional meanings are prompts for reflection, and your choices remain your own.

Is the Ace of Spades a bad sign?

No. It was traditionally feared as the “death card”, but it does not predict death or disaster. In this reading it points to a significant change or an ending that makes room for something new.
