Butterfly symbol in coffee grounds and tea leaves

A butterfly drawn inside a cup, from Velvet Omen’s cup symbols

Change · Lightness · Pleasure

What does a butterfly mean in a coffee cup or tea leaves?

Traditionally, a butterfly is a sign of pleasure, lightness, and a change that brings something new. A butterfly can reflect a phase of change in you, and an invitation to hold plans lightly as they take shape.

A question for reflection

What is changing in you that you could welcome rather than resist?

One small step

Do one thing today purely because you enjoy it.

Where the butterfly sits in the cup

Near the rim: change in what is close to you now, or soon.
On the sides: change in what is developing over the coming weeks.
At the bottom: change in what is settled, further away, or deep in the past.
Near the handle: change in you, your home, and the people close to you.
Opposite the handle: change in other people, and the wider world.

A clear shape counts for more than a faint one. Families and readers differ, so treat these as starting points.
